Space saving garden!
Curious to see what this week's post is about? Well, here’s a bit of spinach, some parsley, a couple of mint leaves, oregano and basil. Yes, ya all got it —we’re talking about our latest project vertical and space saving herbs and veggies garden.
Our vertical herbs garden with stackable planters is finally coming along. It’s not just space saving but also a perfect way to keep all our herbs watered and healthy with minimal work. Since the system is dripping downward, all the plants will become saturated with water at the bottom. It’s a perfect way of leaving the guesswork out when to water which plants. Also with vertical gardening you won’t have to worry about additional garden tasks like pest control or taking care of weeds as it’s easy on maintenance.
The planter we chose is circular so plants can grow on all sides. Normally you can just stack up the planters and start gardening but as we wanted to utilize the space under our big tree we have to come up with some additional adjustments.
We wanted our planters to be rotating so that we can view each side and inspect the herbs on a daily basis. For that we dug the soil and used a PVC pipe to hold the planters from the center so that they can rotate well and also stay sturdy. The planters come with the drainage holes and the same can be used to hold the pipe .We purchased this stacking planter because we thought it would be perfect for our herbs. It really comes in handy for those who do not have a lot of yard or patio space because they stack perfectly making it an ideal planter for vertical gardening. We have used 4 sets of planters with 3 stackable planters in each set.
In addition to the vertical garden we have also turned unused trash cans as veggie planters. Just poked some holes into the bottom of the cans for drainage and done. We have also utilized the space near our fence by placing some herbs planter boxes there.
Herbs not just look beautiful but they’re delicious, fragrant and packed with medicinal and health benefits and what’s better than getting these benefits from your own organic garden. Lastly, believe it or not, it’s actually scientifically-proven that you should love your plants by talking to them. So after you’ve done everything else, greet your garden with a hello. It’s gonna get your plants to grow.
